We are asking the Volusia County School Board to amend the mask policy to make masks optional to all students, effective immediately.
•The students do not wear masks properly. They are wearing the same mask all day, through multiple locations. They touch the masks to adjust them, take them on and off, set them down on their laps, seats, lunch tables, stuff them in their pockets where their hands later go, etc. Improper mask handling is increasing the risk of spreading the virus rather than preventing it.
•Throughout the county there are multiple private schools, daycares, sports leagues, and dance studios that do not have a required mask policy and there has not been any reported outbreaks.
•We are concerned on the harm of long term mask wearing and inappropriate mask use will have on our children. 
•The mandatory mask policy is causing an increase in discipline problems which is a major disruption to learning. This policy was never intended to be handled as a discipline matter, per the school board’s mask mandate policy.
•The state of FL is in phase 3 and is not under a state wide mask mandate order. The school board’s decision to have a mandatory mask policy is a government overreach that should not be occurring. It should be a parents choice whether or not their child wears a mask.
