Volunteers need protection against discrimination

Volunteers need protection against discrimination
Why this petition matters

Voluntary workers are not protected by the Equality Act of 2010 because they do not have a contract of employment, as paid workers do. Sadly, as I have experienced three times in the last year, people who cannot work in paid employment, normally due to ill health, turn to volunteer roles in their local area. I volunteered for 12 years in a national uniform youth organisation, 27 years with an international aviation enthusiast group as an editor and the last 6 yesrs also as a director, and was actively involved with a Museum for around 4 years. I have had mental health issues since 1992, and have always been honest and open about it with all roles applied for, and been cleared by the DSS and later DWP, and yet despite everything I had done, when I became mentally unwell and physically disabled, the bosses put it in print that they were removing me due to my health. As a volunteer, there is absolutely nothing anyone can do about the discrimination. In today's world, this is wrong, so please help me get the government to force lawmakers to challenge and change the Equality Act to include volunteer workers.
For those who have already signed up, a BIG THANK YOU. Please share as much as possible, it takes a huge number of people signing up to make a change.
