The following is an overview of national legislative developments in Europe on fracking.

France (legislative fracking ban)
Jul. 2011: French Government introduces legislative fracking ban

The ban does not, however, extend to coal bed methane drilling. There are currently plans for CBM in the Lorraine region in eastern France and in the Nord/Pas de Calais region. Jan. 25, 2017: Ban on shale gas enshrined in minerals legislation (code minier) but it excludes conventional hydrocarbons, such as tight gas/oil and coal bed methane

Jul. 6, 2017: The Petroleum and Other Minerals Development (Prohibition of Onshore Hydraulic Fracturing) Bill is signed into law by the President of Ireland after having passed both Houses of the Oireachtas (Dáil and Seanad)
