Asphalt 8 — No More Pay To Play

The Issue

Asphalt 8 is a unique and special game unlike any other in its genre. However, huge, sweeping, drastic changes were made in the Fast Lane Update also known as FLU. Changes that the vast majority of players felt were unnecessary and damaging to an enjoyable gaming experience. Every subsequent update thereafter has introduced more and more changes geared towards inflating/requiring the cost and amounts of resources needed to participate in basic game play.

The FLU updates increased pro kit requirements to unreasonable numbers, even for skilled players who are able to collect 100% of the available resources from ads, TLE, MP, ect.. A single B-S class car requires 8 months to 2+ years of gathering and saving enough resources to win it. Sadly this is NOT an exaggeration, it has been calculated many times.

Example: all possible resources available from all possible areas of game play, with drop rates factored in were calculated and it was found to take 2.2 years to win the necessary amount of tech cards  needed to win the Centenario, tech cards alone. And 10.8 months if you factor in buying said tech cards in the exclusive deals with new earned tokens. Not to mention the engines for the Centenario were unavailable before and after the event requiring 15k tokens of engines just to upgrade the car. The average VIP 6 player with 3 years of experience and event cars collected only earns 2-3k tokens per month. New players are not even able to participate in TLE let alone win anything due to the extreme upgrade requirements making their average token income less than 1000.

Tactics like stacking events that use the same resources one after the other instead of spacing them out and giving us time to recoup even a tiny bit of the massive losses.

The most damaging change to date:

Locked Rank Requirements which ensures that you pay 100% of these inflated beyond reason, resources before you can win a car. Completely removing any reward for playing and developing enough skill in the game to win new cars with a lower tune. Taking away the challenge for more skilled players who enjoy winning cars at minimum possible tunes, or for people who cannot afford higher tunes that push themselves, developing skill and overcoming what was once not possible for them before. This change is trying to create a one size fits all model in a heavily diverse game where skill ranges significantly between players. This change alone has caused an overwhelming portion of people to give up and decide they can’t/won’t win a car before even trying, as well as it being the last straw for many who have just had enough. This change above all else must be reversed.

We are tired of the contempt GameLoft has continued to show towards its supporters/players/paying customers. It is offensive how little they value our opinions and suggestions, making it very clear money is the only motivation driving GameLoft’s decisions at the moment. We have repeatedly tried to plead and reach out just to be stonewalled by an incapable customer care service that sends prewritten responses that do not address the issue, often taking 2-4 reply emails before someone actually talks to you. Consumer Engagement is zero.

There needs to be a balance between engineering game play to increase profits and player enjoyment. I’ve watched hundreds of consistent regular high paying customers leave the game between the FLU and now. The state of the game is unsustainable. especially after the Terzo festival where we paid 15k tokens for a “Premium Pass” and real money for coins, since we didn’t realize until it was too late that you engineered the festival for success only if people bought the premium pass on day 1. Many are rethinking how they will spend in the game in the future.

Another major problem is transparency. We have no idea what to do most of the time and it is only through trial and costly error that we figure it out. It seems you do not want an informed consumer. It is been coined many times that “GameLoft thrives in uncertainty” as most of our mistakes or failed gambles as we try to guess seem engineered to cost us resources.

We are asking that you stop and look at all your social networks and platforms. Look at your own forums, look at the Facebook groups. We are NOT happy. The only reason so many of us have not given up and left the game is because we had so many years of fun and enjoyment, so much time (and money for many) invested, it would be a tragic blow to finally pull the plug. But this last update with all the rest since the FLU has completed the full circle of what we can take and continue on.

The downward spiral that started to take place in this game is explained at the beginning of this video. Sadly things are much MUCH worse from when this video took place. Multiplayer is a complete mess and a far cry from what it was before. All they had to do to make it fair was nerf the ARSE, not destroy all the cars and the entire play mode with it: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=PKrYmEXOv50

The FLU petition gained nearly 5k signatures and GameLoft still refused to acknowledge us. This is unacceptable!!

We have a list of changes that are necessary. They have been voted on and talked about ever since the FLU. We ask that you consider making this next update the players update. Changes that benefit us, changes that return some of enjoyment back into this once great game. We want to talk. Are you willing to listen?
