Black Lives Matter Street Mural on Main St. Downtown and Apology for Visalia, Ca

Black Lives Matter Street Mural on Main St. Downtown and Apology for Visalia, Ca

The Issue

Inspired by the collective efforts of Fresno’s citizens, whom achieved permission by their city to come together to paint a BLM street mural in front of their city hall. We, Visalia citizens, call upon Mayor Bob Link and the Visalia City Council to address what once was our town’s attitude regarding inequality among all citizens. We demand an apology from our town that is not only satisfactory and genuine, but which also includes a promise to the citizens pledging to do all that’s necessary and proper within their powers to abolish racial inequality within our city. It is important that Visalia makes a statement showing our stance on the BLM movement. Being the oldest town between Stockton and Los Angeles, Visalia has the oldest KKK history in the valley of California. Nearly 90 years ago the KKK held a rally, marching their racist feet down our now beloved Main St. downtown. It is our duty to correct our towns wrongs for there are still those who cherish our towns horrible history, somehow feeling a sense of pride in those dreadful acts. It’s that type of feeling that makes racism survive the test of time. Racism is like a virus needing a host to feed off of. We need to cut ties with that part of our past as a city in order to starve that racist bone that still resides within some today, in order for future generations to thrive in a equal world.

We are demanding a BLM street mural on Main St. downtown of Visalia, Ca. BIG and HUGE showing our love for all! We are calling on the City Council of Visalia to provide paint and equipment to ensure we the community can come together to make this happen adequately and safely.
