Protect Our Children

On August 9, 2021 Millington Municipal Schools resumed in person learning. Parents were told all measures would be taken to ensure the safety of students. However, classrooms are crowded with 20+ students, there are NO dividers on desk to protect from the spread of covid infection and social distancing IS NOT taking place.

The Order Puts Children at Risk 

I am greatly concerned with Governor Bill Lee Executive Order No. 84. This order allows students to opt out of wearing mask in school despite the local Shelby County Heath Department directive that states “the risk of transmission of Covid is greater when people are unmasked and indoors”. This is a community health issue and the lives of children are at risk. Currently local pediatric hospitals are attempting to combat this crisis all while hospital beds fill up. Over 2,000 health care professionals in TN have signed an open letter to Governor Lee with concerns for the new executive order. The goal is to stop the spread of this virus. However, I am fearful that this measure will do the exact opposite and our children will be the ones to suffer the consequences.

Give Parents & Students a Safe Fair Option 

 I am simply asking that we come together and sign this petition requiring Millington School District/Board to offer a virtual option to students who do not feel safe returning to the classroom.
