10% Reduction in Semester Price Due to COVID-19 Limiting Facility Use.

10% Reduction in Semester Price Due to COVID-19 Limiting Facility Use.
The Issue
Due to Virginia Tech closing facilities for the rest of the semester over COVID-19 concerns it is un-just to charge us as if they were still in full use. We, the students of Virginia Tech, demand a reduction in the price of this semester equivalent to the value lost by switching to online learning versus in-person education.
With tuition rates already placing severe economic burdens on our families, the notion that our beloved university would still levy the entire cost of a semester (as if all facilities were still in operation) on to us is an unforgivable injury. An injury that we will not allow to go unanswered. With this petition we aim to bring the greed of our institution into the light so that it may burn underneath the lens of economic justice.
Many students struggle just for the economic capacity to attend Virginia Tech, to not give them relief during this time of slumped operation casts doubt onto the integrity of our institution. If our dogma truly is "Ut Prosim" then the leadership of Virginia Tech should demonstrate their commitment to serving the students that finance all of the extravagance there-in by reducing, or refunding the lost value of this semester.
Aside for VT leadership:
This move will make you look a lot more ethical than your competitors, and social responsibility is a massive national trend with the SRI (Socially Responsible Index) out pacing the SPY year-over-year. Make the prudent long-term decision and reduce our tuition accordingly.
