There is no doubt that this has been a stressful time for us all. Each day of these past few weeks has brought dramatic, yet necessary, changes to our everyday lives. We have all become victims of the situation at hand. Our spring semester has been reduced to online instruction via a system many of us are unfamiliar with. Though this is the only option, we mustn’t ignore the impending challenges it will present. The assumption that each student will be able to work their hardest as the world faces this global health pandemic is not realistic. We cannot be naive. Multiple states have already underwent lockdown protocol and many more will follow suit. What will the students without access to the necessary technology needed to complete their assignments do? Furthermore, if everyone is expected to “work from home” there will certainly be a shortage of available technology in each home. We are attempting to carry on as if everything is normal when it is not. Something must change.

We believe each student should be given the opportunity to convert their classes (if they choose) to a “pass/fail” system. Multiple universities have given their students this privilege as it will allow students to try their hardest without their GPA’s being affected during this crisis. The student body has spoken. Please, VSU administrators, hear our voices.
