Stricter Domestic Violence Laws and Convictions

Stricter Domestic Violence Laws and Convictions
The Issue
Being only one of thousands of victims of domestic violence, I can truly understand why victims stay in these horrific situations. The initial protective order can be ordered for up to 2 years. If the abuser violates this they only get a smack on the hand. The abuser in my case was sentenced to 1 day incarceration. Upon getting more information on this, he was to be processed and then released. What's the point in even wasting my or the courts time? These laws and convictions need to be greater than just 1 day. The next time he violates the protective order he gets a mandatory minimum jail time of 10 days. The next time is a felony. Why should there even be a next time when after the first time it should teach a lesson! No wonder so many of us that are in this situation don't press the issue. I want to be a voice of these other victims and their families. I am asking each and every one to please sign this petition so we can get justice for ourselves, our families, and let us not forget the ones that do not have a voice, the ones that this cycle ended fatally for.
