This petition is to ban Wildlife Services from using M-44 cyanide devices, cyanide and compound 1080 for predator control in Virginia.

Wildlife Services is using M-44 cyanide bombs in attempts to regulate coyote numbers near livestock. But, in 10 years they have killed over 40 million animals, most of which are not even coyotes or other predatory animals, and injured even more, including some humans. They continue this practice despite there being more sound and scientific methods for regulating predatory numbers. Every year 126 million tax dollars are spent to use this method of killing.

The use of M-44 cyanide bombs is cruel and a terrible way for an animal to die. They attract the animal in with an interesting smell then spray a gas out which suffocates the animal from the inside.

The USDA claims to solve the problems between wildlife and people “in the safest and most humane ways possible” but we can see that that is not always so.

Since these devices have been activated, the coyote population has actually tripled in areas where farmers had hoped to kill off most of the predatory animals. Clearly these bombs are doing more harm than good.

In addition, in 2019, the Trump Administration authorized the use of cyanide bombs for killing predatory animals.

These bombs are still allowed in most states and with your help I would like to work to ban it in one more.

Here are some articles and a video to help explain the problem more:
