Free Nathaniel Pierce

The Issue

Nathaniel Pierce is a black man currently imprisoned in Virginia on a parole violation for a crime he didn't commit.

In 1995, Nathaniel Pierce was convicted of the 1994 murder of Steven Smith. Since that time, 10 witnesses have come forward and admitted to lying when they said they saw Nathaniel. Some of these people were facing charges of their own or were police informants. https://www.wral.com/10-witnesses-admit-to-lying-in-a-murder-case/17384071/

After 25 years in jail for a crime he didn't commit, Nathaniel was released with nothing. He received no assistance or mental health care for the trauma he endured in prison. Nathaniel was a happy, healthy man who had never been in any trouble before he was arrested. Released without access to mental health care, Nathaniel began to self medicate to address the trauma and PTSD he suffers due to his time incarcerated. This lead to a DUI accident and an altercation with police. Nathaniel admits to his mistake, and has since completed a drug treatment program. He has also already served 14 months for an accident in which no one was injured but Nathaniel.

Nathaniel has served his time, again, and is now stuck in prison for violating his parole for a crime he never committed. We are asking that Nathaniel be reinstated on parole so he can get the mental health care he so desperately needs and pursue his exoneration in the 1994 case.

Thank you!
