Free Michael Lee Mitchell

Free Michael Lee Mitchell
The Issue
Michael Lee Mitchell is my 51 year old son. He has been incarcerated since August 2000 with 10 years remaining for his involvement in a robbery attempt with two others.
Michael was appointed representation by the court. The first two lawyers were preparing his case when a conflict of interest arose concerning one of the other accusers, so he was assigned another Lawyer to the case. This lawyer showed no interest in Michael's case, didn't advise him of his rights, appeal, or any other avenues pertaining to his case or charges. The lawyer just let the hammer fall and he was never heard of again. His case was never appealed and he didn't know about an appeal until the stature of limitation had expired, told to him by fellow inmates.
After time to think and re-evaluate his situation, Michael states "I feel as though I was misrepresented by my court appointed lawyer at that time. This is not an attempt to claim innocents, I know I am guilty for my participation. However the 34 years I was given as a sentence, I feel was entirely unjust. Twenty years ago I was a different person. The evaluation during my incarceration is a very serious matter to me because of my mother, my children, and my grandchildren. I want to regain the trust of society, become that important factor in my family's life again and in the community."
"This is why I'm fighting for a release, I am fighting for a "Second Chance".
Visiting Michael for the past twenty years, I have seen a great change in his personality, mind and thoughts. Even though he is incarcerated, he has become a great father, grandfather and son. He has improve on his skills, trade and talents.
I pray everyday asking GOD for a "Second Chance" for my son to become a free man and be the father, grandfather, and son he is capable of and meant to be.
