The lawyer representing the Central Methodist Church suggested last night at the last public meeting that the church has asked the architects to globally redesign the development to incorporate preserving the Robert Ball Sr. Family Cemetery. While this is great news, nothing has yet to be seen in writing or in design. Joana Wilson Green from the Virginia Department of Historic Resources was present, as were Rebeccah Ballo from Arlington County. The star of the show was Ann Little, descendant of Robert Ball Sr., who came in from Williamsburg! She discussed visiting the area decades ago and her Grandmother telling her about the Ball family heritage in Ballston and Arlington County! She asked that the cemetery remain preserved and not to be moved. She said that she didn't think that Find-A-Grave had a place for forwarding addresses when someone moved a burial! This Saturday is a hearing on deciding whether the county needs to advertise the meetings for Historic Landmark status for the cemetery. If you can come, please do, you can give a two minute plea on why saving the cemetery is important! The hearing this Saturday is with the Arlington County Board. It will start no earlier than 9am at 2100 Clarendon Boulevard, in the main hearing room on the 3rd floor. The Board will be deciding whether to recommend advertising public hearings for December to consider the local district designation. As part of that, they will be deciding what boundaries are appropriate to advertise. Members of the public can speak for 3 minutes, but can’t give presentations. The County Manager is recommending public hearings be advertised. The staff report is here: http://arlington.granicus.com/MetaViewer.php?view_id=2&event_id=915&meta_id=151245
