Ball Family Members, please read this, too! On October 19, 2016, the HALRB will meet and one of the discussing points will be designating the Robert Ball Family Cemetery an Arlington County Historic Landmark. HALRB hearings are held on the third Wednesday of each month beginning at 7:30 p.m. and DRC public meetings are held on the first Wednesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. in the Courthouse Plaza Building, 2100 Clarendon Boulevard, Lobby Conference Rooms Cherry and Dogwood, unless otherwise noted. View the DRC website for DRC meetings and materials. You can also listen to archived audio of public meetings. Please come and see what the proposition is, and let your voice be heard. The second meeting regarding the cemetery is on October 20, 2016 at the Methodist Church next to the Robert Ball Family Cemetery in Ballston. If the format is the same as the lasgt meeting, the developer and archaeolgist will discuss their plans with the public with slides and talking, and will take questions from the audience and allow for a two minute speech from those that sign up. Please come and let your voice be heard! Attached is a photo of Centre Ballston, platted by James Clements in 1897. The slanted square in the middle is the 1/4 acre cemetery lot. Clements could not develop it, so he made it the central portion of his development, centered around the Robert Ball Grave Yard. The Methodist Church was given this 1/4 acre in 1906 for a church site, as well as to protect and care for the Ball family graves already there.
