Olivia Cobb's Revocation at Virginia Commonwealth University

The Issue

In this political climate in America, racism and hate speech should not, and can not be tolerated at academic institutions that especially promote diversity and acceptance. Olivia Cobb is an incoming freshman into the pre-nursing program at Virginia Commonwealth University and alongside myself, many incoming students have expressed concerns with her future attendance. Olivia in the past has engaged in racist behaviors and private messages have became publicized exposing these actions. She commented that the other users in the messages were "funny" as they harassed and cyber-bullied a person of color while using derogatory terms.

Incoming students at Virginia Commonwealth University are appalled and want justice and for the situation to be dealt with in a manner that promotes racial equality.  Olivia Cobb has caused hurt to a community of incoming freshmen who were excited for their admittance and many are now questioning if their experience at Virginia Commonwealth University will be fair and just. Black people of color and people of color should not have to feel judged and unsafe in a college that should be a safe space for them. If Olivia attends Virginia Commonwealth University in the Fall, she could bring this same hurt that she has caused now to other people and it is not right.

I, as well as other students, ask that this matter be investigated and a case be built to revoke her acceptance. Her comments in the private messages are not the first time this has happened and there is a chance if she attends this may happen again. I ask Virginia Commonwealth University to practice what they have preached and to allow incoming freshman to be comfortable in their new home for the next four years by bringing justice to this horrid situation.
