School safety should have the highest priority in our school system.

While we have great technology and a check in desk, all of our safety procedures are only set in motion once a threat is inside the school.  On November 15th, in California, a gunman attempted to enter a school, but fled because the doors were locked.

The locked doors saved children's lives.

We are failing to protect our kids with the most basic, preventative level of security: a locked front door.

We request that the Virginia Beach Public School System:

1.  Locks the school front door and keeps outer doors locked during the school day.

AND

2.  Utilizes the check-in desk staff member to visually inspect a visitor at the door (by camera), prior to buzzing them into the school.
