Violation Of The Constitutional Rights To Practice Religious Faith

The Issue

Sir,

We are signing this petition to make you aware of the great pain and anguish caused to Christians in general by the unwarranted and unconstitutional remark of Ms. Rekha Sharma, the chairperson of the National Commission for Women. Recently, she had made a statement saying that she and her panel would recommend the government to intervene to abolish the practice of confession, based on an isolated incident.

There are seven sacraments which form the basic pillars of Christian faith. The sacrament of reconciliation (confession) is one of the most important sacraments. It has been almost two millennia the majority of Christians actively follow the practice of confession which is instituted by our Lord Jesus Christ.

We protest strongly against her statement and denounce her unconstitutional interference in the matters of faith and religion. So, we appeal to the Honorable President of India to interfere in the matter and take necessary action to withdraw this statement so that the rights of the minority community enshrined in the constitution is protected.
