The issue

When Vinted launched in Australia, a lot of us were genuinely excited. Here was a new way for everyday Australians to clear out their wardrobes, make a bit of extra money, find affordable second-hand clothing and keep perfectly good things in circulation.

But selling on Vinted takes time.

Every listing means taking photos, measuring items, researching a fair price, writing descriptions, answering questions, packing orders and getting parcels sent. For people listing dozens of items, that can add up to hours and hours of work.

I know that firsthand.

When I joined Vinted Australia, my listings received views, favourites and sales. It felt like the platform was working exactly as it should: sellers listed their things, buyers found them, and Vinted connected the two.

Then something changed.

Despite continuing to list and put the same effort in, my visibility dropped dramatically. Items that previously would have attracted attention were suddenly receiving very few views.

And when I started asking around, I realised I wasn’t alone.

Other Australian sellers have described similar experiences: strong engagement when they first join, followed by a significant drop in views and sales. Sellers are left wondering whether buyers simply aren’t interested or whether their listings aren’t being shown to them in the first place.

That’s the problem.

Nobody expects Vinted to guarantee us a sale. Nobody is asking to be pushed ahead of everyone else.

We’re asking for a fair go.

If people are going to spend their time building listings that ultimately help build Vinted’s Australian marketplace, they deserve reasonable transparency about how that marketplace works.

For some people, selling second-hand items isn’t just a hobby. It can mean extra money towards groceries, bills or rent. Others are simply trying to clear out things they no longer need rather than throwing them away. Whatever the reason someone sells, their time still has value.

We’re asking Vinted Australia to:

Give sellers greater transparency about visibility. Explain the major factors that determine which listings are shown to buyers.
Investigate dramatic drops in seller visibility. If active sellers are suddenly receiving little or no exposure, there should be a way to understand why.
Give sellers a meaningful way to report visibility concerns. Not automated responses — a genuine feedback process that allows patterns affecting Australian sellers to be identified.
Communicate significant platform changes. If changes to Vinted’s systems may substantially affect how listings are discovered, sellers should be told.
Give new and established sellers a fair opportunity to be discovered. A healthy marketplace shouldn’t depend on giving people a burst of visibility when they first arrive and then leaving them wondering where everybody went.
Vinted’s Australian marketplace doesn’t exist without its sellers.

Every photograph uploaded, description written, parcel packed and item sent contributes to making the platform useful. Sellers provide the inventory that brings buyers to Vinted in the first place.

We’re not asking for special treatment.

We’re asking Vinted Australia to be transparent with the people helping build its marketplace and to make sure ordinary sellers aren’t putting hours of work into listings that buyers may never even get the opportunity to see.

If you’re selling on Vinted Australia and you’ve watched your views, favourites or sales suddenly disappear, please add your name.

One seller asking a question is easy to overlook.

Thousands of sellers asking the same question are much harder to ignore.

Give Australian Vinted sellers a fair go.
