Save the Winnetka Dog Beach!
The Issue
The Winnetka dog beach is at risk! The Lakefront Master Plan 2030 does not include any provision for dog access to the lake. Unless we act now our wonderful dog beach will be gone forever. The Beachfront Plan needs to be changed to preserve this valued and important park district asset.
The Centennial Park dog beach has provided countless hours of joy for our canine buddies (and owners) since 1995. It also provides the park district with over $25,000 of revenue annually. We currently have multiple beaches for humans only--Tower, Lloyd, Maple and Elder. The expansion of Elder to include the entire Centennial beachfront for exclusive human use is simply not necessary.
This oversight by the Park Board can be fixed by simply allocating the portion of the Centennial beach south of the metal groin to our dogs. This approach not only allows for a significant expansion of Elder Lane beach but also preserves the dog beach. This is a win for everyone.
Please support the preservation of the Centennial Dog Beach. Your dog and our community will thank you!
