Village of Pinecrest, Florida, City Council: Please create an off-leash dog park in the Village of Pinecrest, Florida

We, the undersigned, support the building of an off-leash dog park in The Village of Pinecrest, Florida.

This is a fantastic opportunity for promoting health and well-being of all family members, building community among neighbors, and promoting responsible pet ownership by requiring dogs to be fully-vaccinated and registered with the County. It’s a win-win situation for everyone!

Dog parks provide an outlet for dogs to exercise and socialize. Most dogs require exercise that leash restrictions do not permit. The physical and mental benefits provided by healthy play with other dogs is integral for dogs’ longevity, weight control, and socialization.

Dog parks foster positive community-building and networking opportunities by providing an environment for social interaction for people and their pets. Newly-relocated families greatly benefit from dog parks by being able to connect with people who share a common interest.

Dog park patrons tend to be people who appreciate the park and take an 'ownership interest' in it. As a result, they keep the area clean and free of criminal activity and other bad elements.

Research has identified that dogs improve people’s health by lowering blood pressure and by reducing anxiety and depression. Dog parks also provide an avenue for the elderly and disabled to safely exercise their dogs.

We view this park as a community project, in partnership with all of the residents of Pinecrest, Florida, as both an active dog park and a passive family park, designed to satisfy the needs of dog owners and non-dog owners, alike.

A dog park will add a unique and distinctive park to the Village of Pinecrest and further expand Pinecrest’s designation as a “Fun City USA.”

The land identified as the first choice for the dog park by the Pinecrest Dog Park Committee is Veteran's Wayside Park, located at the corner of US1 and Southwest 112 Street.

A 3 year search reveals that Veteran's Wayside Park is the only viable location within Village limits, as it is a currently underutilized piece of land that attracts an undesirable element.   The park has great natural features that are perfectly-suited for dog park.
