PETITION FOR RESIDENTIAL TRAFFIC RELIEF
SW 148th St Neighborhood, Palmetto Bay, FL
We, the undersigned residents of the neighborhood bounded by SW 144th Street (north), SW 152nd Street (south), Old Cutler Road (east), and SW 75th Avenue (west), respectfully petition the Village of Palmetto Bay and Miami-Dade County Department of Transportation to implement a emergency drastic traffic measures to address dangerous continues cut-through traffic in our residential neighborhood.
THE PROBLEM:
Our neighborhood streets are being used as a high-volume shortcut by commuters traveling between SW 144th Street, Old Cutler Road, and SW 152nd Street during peak rush hours. Drivers enter via SW 74th Avenue from SW 144th Street and via SW 148th Street from Old Cutler Road, then exit onto SW 74th Avenue and SW 74th Place toward SW 152nd Street. This has resulted in:
aprox. 1300 cars per day are rushing thru our residential street sw 148th.
*Drivers rushing frustrated with the horrible increase in traffic and using driving apps to get around the main congested public streets that are for public traffic. Driving recklessly thru a private community at speeds like on main roads they just exited from into our residential streets.
• Dangerous vehicle speeds on residential streets not designed for through traffic
• Inability for children to play safely outside during morning and evening rush hours
• Unsafe conditions for pedestrians and cyclists
• Ineffectiveness of existing speed bumps in reducing traffic volume
WHAT WE ARE REQUESTING:
We request the Village conduct a formal traffic study and consider the following targeted interventions:
1. A restriction or diverter at SW 148th Street at Old Cutler Road, to eliminate the primary east-west cut-through entry point
2. A right-turn-out restriction or diverter on SW 74th Avenue at SW 144th Street, to eliminate the primary north-south cut-through entry point
3. A 3–6 month pilot closure to measure effectiveness before any permanent decision is made
These two targeted closures would restore our streets to their intended residential use while preserving full access for neighborhood residents to all major roads.
