For 6 years, I have owned a miniature pig as a pet in my hometown of Morton Grove. She has been a beloved member of my family since October 24th, 2014. Throughout these years with her as my pet, many people have seen her, interacted with her, and even stopped their cars just to take a picture either of her or with her! There were no complaints towards her until recently when a Morton Grove resident decided they were going to call the cops.

Yesterday in the morning, the MGPD and animal control officers responding to this complaint informed me that I have 3 weeks to relocate her. If the person who submitted the ‘anonymous complaint’ knew anything about me or my family - they would’ve known damn well that we are not folding. Their complaint is based on the assumption that Cotton is considered to be “livestock”, not a domesticated animal. Like most domesticated animals for the purpose of being pets, Cotton is microchipped, litter trained, lives in my house, follows commands, and is able to recognize her name.

Within the 6 years of owning her, I have joined numerous groups on Facebook that have furthered the information that is crucial to know when owning and caring for a mini pig as a pet. Unfortunately, the issue I am currently facing is much more common than one might think. This is a problem many mini pig owners have the possibility of facing due to the outdated ordinances of the township they reside in and the nosey neighbors who can be dubbed as “Karen”. To whoever my neighborhood Karen might be, I suggest you seek therapy before turning to the police for every little problem that you deem unfit by your societal standards.

By signing this petition, you will help to further my argument against my village’s ordinance solidifying Cotton’s residence in the town of Morton Grove as well as shoving this residents complaint where the sun don’t shine.
