My name is Elizabeth Distaffen and we live at 20 North Main Street and we moved to the Village of Gainesville in the Summer of 2020 (July to be exact). My daughter has raised rabbits since she was 5 Years old and we have had rabbits since then. My daughter, Lily Distaffen, has always had a hard time with being extremely shy to the point of being diagnosed with something called Selective Mutism. These rabbits have been her rock, The things in her life that have helped her grow and mature and be more outgoing. She is now 15 and has become an amazing caring person since she started with the rabbits.

Here is now the dilema......

We have a neighbor who for some reason does not like these animals. So has called Animal control on us, stating they aren't being taken care of. We have never had any issues since moving in, in 2020. Clearly she has it out for us. So since then we have become aware that according to the zoning laws in the Village of Gainesville, the only domestic animals allowed are Cats, Dogs, Fish and Birds. So We are now trying to get the Domestic Animal Law changed to include rabbits.They make no noise and usually have very little to no odor. So I'm not sure what the issue would be with having them. We live in Wyoming county where you would expect to see an array of animals. So I will fight to make this right and keep a young girl from having to part with the one things that makes her, well, HER!
