Save Ellie
The Issue
Allow Wyverne Flatt to keep his Emotional Support Animal (ESA) Ellie. Emotional support animals provide comfort to people who are dealing with difficult situations, including those who have experienced some type of trauma. An ESA provides therapeutic effect to the owner through companionship. Some common mental disabilities that qualify for an ESA are anxiety, depression, learning disabilities, attention deficit disorder, chronic stress, and post-traumatic stress disorder. Studies have found that Emotional Support Animals help produce neurotransmitters that make a person happy, they help calm anxiety, they work in conjunction with other forms of treatment to over come mental illness and avoid depression, they can help stabilize intense emotional distress, and most importantly having an ESA provides unconditional love that can help a person get back on their feet after having a difficult emotional turmoil. Studies have found that having an ESA can help to lower blood pressure, decrease respiration rates, and improve the ability to cope with pain and emotional stress. Ellie the potbellied pig has been apart of Flatts family since 2018. She has helped Flatt through a messy divorce and the devastating loss of his mother. When Flatt got her, she was no bigger than a shoe. Now weighing 110, Ellie greets Flatt when he comes home from work, snuggles with Flatt and his 2 cats and watches TV, and according to Flatt is smarter than both of his dogs. Weather Ellie is a conventional pick for an Emotional Support Animal or not we as a community must save her.
