Private intervention is needed in water, VIL
Private intervention is needed in water, VIL
The Issue
If the railways are getting partial privatisation, shouldn’t water which is mismanaged by government authorities and the public at least be handled by a private entity?
Maybe, a company like Vishvaraj Infrastructure Limited (VIL) that is capable of such a work should be given an opportunity? The water management recently won two major awards at the recent World Water Leadership Congress & Awards. The company won the presitigious Water Reuse Project of the Year and Mr Arun Lakhani, VIL’s chairman and managing director won the award for Outstanding Contribution to Water.
VIL which uses the PPP module for all its project (the fourth P is people), can bring a great level of efficiency, especially considering they are a part of the private sector. VIL could eradicate inadequacies, bring about innovation and see organisation through private intervention and investments.
PPPs will automatically bring accountability of the private entity. After all, a private entity brings in the investment with a long term commitment for the project.
VIL provides global solutions that contribute to sustainable development in the water sector through innovation in the design, construction and operation of drinking water treatment plants, distribution system reforms, etc. The Company has executed or in execution projects worth approximately Rs 27,500 million across the three sectors primarily through PPP contracting and few through EPC route.
