Petition updateVictory Update: Little League Updates 2026 Rules to Permit Thumb ProtectorsWill Little League Step Up to the Plate for Safety? What Will It Take?

Hey All,

Craig here from ThumbPRO®. As we approach Mother’s Day, we’re reminded of the dedication parents show to their children’s safety. Parents trust our thumb guard to help protect their athletes because the thumb is one of the most vulnerable areas for injury in baseball and softball. Thumb guards help keep players safe and confident at the plate.

So why did Little League suddenly, this season, take important hand protection away from their youth players? Are parents really expected to buy into the false ruling that thumb protectors alter the bat, when this claim is blatantly false?

One mother shared her experience with us, and it truly drives home why we must all continue to put the pressure on Little League to respect safety at the plate for all their players.

"My daughter started using ThumbPRO® after experiencing a thumb injury, and it’s made a huge difference. Her doctor at [a leading rehab hospital] advised that she shouldn't bat without her thumb guard. As a mom, I want to do everything possible to keep her safe."

Amazingly, Little League's new ban takes this essential protection away from every one of their youth players-- even despite doctors' recommendations to help with essential injury prevention.

Think about it: Just like helmets, mouth guards, shin guards, etc. thumb protectors are a basic safety measure that should be allowed at the plate. They’re just as essential as any other piece of protective gear. Every player, every parent, must have the right to choose the best equipment to keep them safe—so why is Little League excluding thumb protectors, which are just as crucial for player safety?

It’s a very basic question that Little League continues to ignore. What will it take for them to overturn this ban on safety? Will they continue to ignore allowing essential protective gear?

We’re asking for your continued help to make sure that safety stays front and center with Little League. Keep the pressure on them!

Here’s what you can do:

If you haven’t signed the petition yet, please do so now! Share it widely and post it on your social media. Help us reach 350 signatures and beyond. Let’s get Little League to finally listen and take action to reverse this nonsensical ban!

Contact Local Little League Representatives
It’s crucial that Little League hears from you. Reach out to local Little League contacts across the country to voice your concern about this ban and demand action. Below is contact information for Little League representatives across the U.S., so you can make your voice heard.

Ask Your Doctor for a Medical Exemption
If your child needs protection, don’t hesitate to ask your doctor for a medical exemption to allow them to wear ThumbPRO® or another thumb protector. Many parents don’t realize that they can work with their doctor to get signed exemption forms. It’s up to you and your doctor, but this could be a crucial step in protecting your athlete’s hand. Forms are available online, and once signed, you can submit them directly to Little League for approval. If Little League denies your medical exemption, you may, likely, appeal for the sake of personal safety and injury prevention.

Reach Out to the Media
Contact your local news stations, reporters, and sports bloggers. The media is a powerful tool for shining a light on this issue. We need to keep asking why Little League would remove something that ensures player safety (and that their assertion that thumb protectors alter the bat is completely false!)—and we need to get that message out to the public.

Safety should never be negotiable. As parents, it's our responsibility to protect our kids so they can enjoy the game they love. ThumbPRO® isn’t just a product—it’s a tool that keeps athletes safe, letting them focus on their performance and fully embrace the joy of playing without worrying about injury. Parents and doctors agree: it’s essential for players to gain confidence at bat, free from the fear of bat sting, so they can experience the game to its fullest

The question remains: Will Little League step up and listen to the voices demanding safety for their young players?

Please continue to help hold Little League accountable to their responsibility in overseeing safety and in keeping true to their mission of player safety. We believe, and parents tell us this very clearly, that by banning protective gear, Little League is putting players at increased risk of injury.

Thank you for your continued support. Let’s keep fighting for the safety of Little League youth athletes.

Yours in safety,
Craig First & the ThumbPRO® Team
