Thank you for supporting this important cause for youth hand safety at the plate. 

I wanted to reach out as the founder of ThumbPRO®.  The season is just about upon us and, as we all know, Little League recently made this misguided and unfounded decision to ban thumb guards—essential safety gear that protects players’ hands from painful bat sting and impact injuries.

Thumb guards have been available for over 40 years, providing critical protection, and have always been legal at all levels of play. Suddenly, Little League is misrepresenting them by claiming they alter the bat—this is simply not true. They are worn on the hand as protective gear. 

This ban is not only unnecessary but puts young players at risk.

Why This Matters:

⚾️ Many youth players feel more confident at bat when using a thumb guard, as it eliminates the fear of painful bat sting.
⚾️This protection helps them stay engaged, enjoy the game, and continue developing their skills.
⚾️Removing thumb guards, puts players at risk for pain and injury from the effects of bat vibration, thus discouraging young athletes from playing with confidence and comfort.

Little League’s decision takes away a piece of essential safety gear—the same way it would be if they banned helmets, shin guards,  mouth guards, cups, etc. As parents, you have the power to advocate for your child’s safety.

What You Can Do:

✅ Speak Out to Little League – Let them know you care about youth safety at the plate and that this ban is misguided, putting young players at risk.

✅ Request a Medical Exemption – Talk to your child’s doctor about the possibility of obtaining a medical exemption for a thumb guard. If granted by one's doctor, this could, possibly, allow players to wear a thumb guard in play to help protect their hands from injury at the plate. Templates are available to help with this process, and once signed, you can submit it to your local league and let them know about the importance of protecting the hand from bat vibration and the risk of injury.
