People training greyhounds with live bait in Victoria only have 10 years suspension from the sport. In NSW it is a life ban. Too many people are involved with this illegal training. Live baiting is not only treating the innocent bait(rabbits, possums and piglets) poorly, but the dogs that are trained are being trained as if it is ok.

I have chosen to lengthen the punishment of live baiting in grey hound racing in Victoria from only a 10 year ban to life  if participating with live baiting. I disagree with this way of training as it is too risky for the dogs that are trained by these owners. I feel it is wrong to let a very cruel person be able to come back into the business of fair sport and would not like to see any more speechless and innocent animals get hurt. The law I want to focus on that I am changing is Victorian PREVENTION OF CRUELTY TO ANIMALS ACT 1986: 10 years banned from the grey hound racing industry, $29,313.60 for natural person / 145,568 for corporation , 2 years jail. to a life ban .But the other states of Australia such as NSW and South Australia these states hold a law that people who participates in live baiting is suspended for LIFE from the sport.

Other people that are agree with these changes I have chosen for my law is the RSPCA, Animals Australia and Animal welfare. All these organizations are pushing this argument for the same reason. The animals. The animals that don’t have a voice and being given as bait just for training. They can’t bare to see another precious animal suffer any more and believe that the Victorian government are not choosing the right punishment for this situation. They strongly believe that the Victorian government has definitely chosen the wrong punishment. They are ashamed to think that they are not looking out for the animals.
