Tell the Victorian Bar that Robert Richter QC is not fit to practice law
The Issue
In the Victorian County Court today, the Victorian Bar member Robert Richter QC described the sexual assaults of two minors as 'vanilla'. He also went on to victim blame the 13 year old boys as if sipping wine in the church made them somehow responsible for the actions of an adult who sexually assaulted them.
It is high time that the Victorian Bar raised the standard in relation to the conduct of its QCs. In an age where community awareness and in the wake of a dedicated Royal Commission, I would argue that more needs to be done to ensure that QCs do not add to the potential trauma of the significant number of survivors of sexual assault.
We call on the Victorian Bar to denounce these comments and to review the fitness for this individual to serve as part of the judicial system given that he is so clearly ill-equipped to meet community standards of conduct when it comes to the sexual assault of minors.
In particular when it relates to a high profile perpetrator who has also had a hand in covering up decades of abuse.
