Expand Caroline Springs Police Station to operate 24x7x365
The issue
There has been a steady increase of crime in Caroline Springs and surrounding suburbs such as Taylors Hill and Watervale. The crimes include, theft of motor vehicles, theft from vehicles, dangerous driving and most concerning home robberies and invasions.
These crimes have been reported to police as per protocol, however the residents of these suburbs are not seeing a decline in crime. In fact we are seeing the opposite.
The power of social media has proven to benefit the residents in voicing their concerns and reports of crime. Bringing these serious discussions to the attention of many people, including myself.
Residents have had to resort to social media to post videos of home robberies and also providing advise on how to better "police" your suburb and\or property. This is great, however it is overwhelmingly concerning that we see no action or direction from law enforcement or the government.
One general consensus and view the residents have is the lack of a 24x7x365 manned Police Station in Caroline Springs. Having a local police station operate only during business hours does not meet the requirements of an every growing and flourishing suburb\area, in particular when we have been targeted by brazen thieves.
The nearest Police Stations are Keilor Downs and Melton Police Stations, albeit these suburbs would also have their own crime to deal with, therefore one could only imagine and confidently assume that the local police at these stations are already stretched for resources to manage and enforce the law appropriately.
The residents of Caroline Springs would like to see the local government, namely the Honourable Brendan O'Connor MP of Gorton, step up and manage this through to closure to provide the residents with the confidence of being able to leave their homes or live in their homes without the constant worry and threat of being robbed or burgled.
We request action from both Brendan O'Connor and Victoria Police to listen to tax payers. We shouldn't be living in constant threat or fear.
This petition will demonstrate and substantiate our request.
Thanks,
Jeb Erbas, on behalf of the Residents of Caroline Springs.
