Crosswalk Safety @ Craigflower Road & Arm Street

Crosswalk Safety @ Craigflower Road & Arm Street
The Issue
Visibility at this crosswalk is extremely dangerous and there are no pedestrian-controlled crossing lights.
Accidents have occurred at this intersection that is shared by both City of Victoria and the Township of Esquimalt. There are no lights shining on the crosswalk and a telephone pole immediately before the crosswalk further obscures visibility. The crosswalks before and after on Craigflower Road have far less traffic yet both have pedestrian-controlled crossing lights. This is the only crosswalk that borders two municipalities on this stretch of road.
We have upwards of 1,000 residents regularly using this crosswalk including children, Esquimalt high school students, people with disabilities, the elderly, dog walkers, and other residents, often aiming to catch a bus.
We request that the City of Victoria and the Township of Esquimalt work together to install pedestrian-controlled crossing lights as soon as possible to reduce liability and ensure the safety of our adult residents, their children and pets.
