Dismiss Ioan Mang, Minister of Education, for plagiarism

This petition had 306 supporters

Mr. Prime Minister,

We ask you to dismiss Mr. Ioan Mang from his position as Minister of Education. Mr. Mang has committed serial plagiarism in his scientific work, and letting him get away with it would set a disastrous example for the Romanian academic community, and for the Romanian society in general. We remind you of your commitment, upon becoming Prime Minister, to lead the 'most honest government Romania has ever had'. One can hardly think of a better occasion to show that you stand by your words.

Mr. Mang has been accused of plagiarism by several researchers in his field. He has rejected the accusations and has declined to resign, but the evidence against him is clear and impossible to deny.

First case:

Mr. Biham has publicly accused Mr. Mang of plagiarizing his paper: http://www.cs.technion.ac.il/~biham/

Second case:

Mr. Shimoyama has publicly accused Mr. Mang of plagiarizing his paper: http://www.contributors.ro/fara-categorie/confirmare-plagiat-din-parte-prof-dr-eli-biham-decan-al-departamentului-computer-science-de-la-technion-haifa-israel/

Mr. Mang has pretended that this article was never published in the version linked above, and that his actual presentation at the 2004 Symposium included references to Shimoyama et al. But this is false. Journalists have proven that the article was indeed published in a Proceedings volume, with no references to Shimoyama et al.: http://www.b1.ro/stiri/eveniment/dovezi-incontestabile-privind-plagiatul-ministrului-ioan-mang-vezi-proba-pe-hartie-prezentata-de-robert-turcescu-27794.html

Thank you.
