Protect our Nation's Health Care Workers Now!

The Issue

“There is a monumental crisis on the front line of the coronavirus battle. There is a fire smoldering, about to burst open and take over this country, and we are the firefighters, running straight toward it in street clothes. Without personal protective equipment, we will get this virus, we will give it to others, and we will be unavailable to care for the people who need us most of all — our patients.”

--Dorothy R. Novick (a pediatrician in Philadelphia), Washington Post, 3/23/20

In the richest nation in the world, it is incomprehensible and disgraceful that we are telling healthcare workers on the frontlines of this monumental crisis to re-use masks and gloves and bring bandanas to work to protect themselves as they care for highly contagious patients battling a deadly disease. They are putting themselves and their families in harm’s way every day for the benefit of all of us. They shouldn’t have to beg for the essential protective gear they need to do their jobs as safely as possible.

Additionally, if we don’t keep them safe and healthy, this situation will go from disastrous to unimaginable when vast numbers of healthcare workers become infected and unable to care for the growing number of COVID-19 patients.

Let’s ALL (every single one of us!) do our part to help them!  Let’s tell our elected leaders to immediately increase the domestic production of personal protective equipment and other critical medical supplies and equipment (including ventilators).

Let's implore them to take care of our nation’s healthcare workers so that our healthcare workers can take care of all of us safely. We owe them that, at the very least. This is bipartisan issue ... COVID-19 is a nonpartisan disease that doesn’t discriminate. Please sign the petition AND write, call, post or tweet messages to your Senators and Congressional Representatives and to the President (@realDonaldTrump) and Vice-President (@VP).
