No staff cuts at Sydney Uni! Reverse the sackings of 60 casuals

The issue

As part of its "restructure", Sydney University will be "streamlining" courses and faculties, as well as sacking general and academic staff from all over the university. In a bid to boost profits, the quality of learning and administration, and the livelihoods of hundreds of workers, will be put on the scrap heap.

On Monday 29 September, sixty casually employed administrative assistants at the Student Centre were told their jobs wouldn't exist past a fortnight. This is despite being told they would have a job until at least December. The sacking was planned by management in such secrecy that the National Tertiary Education Union were as shocked as anyone to hear of it.

We the undersigned demand that university management immediately reinstate those sacked on Monday and abide by the promise that they would have work until the end of the year.

If the university has trouble finding money, they can take it out of the Vice Chancellor's 2015 salary of $1,385,000!
