The Level 2 grievance filed by the GEO has been officially denied. The Dean of Ivor's College--to whom the grievance was addressed--has been extremely supportive of Ivor, but he is unable to grant a remedy to the grievance at this time. The GEO is in the process of escalating this grievance to Level 3, which is addressed to the Assistant Director of Labor and Employee Relations, Robb Craddock. If no agreement is reached at Level 3, the GEO and the University will be forced into a lengthy arbitration procedure, which may take up to one year.
Ivor would like to personally thank everyone who has signed the petition thus far. Right now he has a lot on his plate, but he will thank everyone more directly once things settle down.
Ivor would also like to make it known that many professors in the University have reached out to him in support, but the opinions of the Faculty and the Administration at UIUC seem to be at odds.
Lastly, Ivor would like to provide the following update about his mother: Ivor's mother is here legally on a tourist visa with two extensions. She is stranded in the US because of the pandemic, but given the current situation, Ivor and his family are trying to secure her a flight home as soon as possible.
We will launch a call/email campaign on Ivor's behalf directed at the Chancellor, Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, and the Associate Vice Chancellor tomorrow, Monday, February 15th. These key gatekeepers have the authority to readmit and reinstate Ivor Chen, if they choose to do so. Stay tuned.
