A VicRoads Safe Driving Program is a court mandate program for offenders who have been found guilty of certain high risk driving offences.

So why wait until someone has deliberately endangered their own life as well as others to order a mandatory Safe Driving Program? 

More than 350 young drivers aged 18 – 25 have lost their lives in Victoria in the last 10 years.

It is too easy to get your license these days and too many young drivers do not receive the necessary preparation and support that is needed to ensure they are genuinely prepared and aware of the risks involved with driving on their own. I genuinely think that making it compulsory for learner drivers to complete a Defensive/Safe Driving course before receiving their probationary license could decrease the deaths on our roads. 

Some of the things included in a defensive driving course are;

-Understanding human factors 

-Hazard Perception 

-Defensive driving techniques

-Fatigue management 

-Managing and reducing risks associated in driving 

-Braking distance 

-Vehicle performance and systems 

As well as practical components inculding;

-Vehicle maintenance

-Accident avoidance 

-Steering technique 

-Simulated emergency braking exercise

-Low speed manoeuvring exercise
