Over the course of 10 years, RuPaul’s Drag Race has ushered a new era of drag into the mainstream. However, the host, RuPaul Charles, has hardly ever been at the helm. The legendary New York drag queen has accomplished a lot to push the boundaries of female illusion and gender expression, but these actions now seem self-serving. RuPaul only cares about RuPaul, and has publicly lambasted the transgender community by explicitly stating that transgender women will not be allowed to participate in Drag Race because their corrective surgery and hormones can be equated to atheletes doping for an advantage during competitions. RuPaul’s views on drag, identity, and acceptance are severely outdated, and he must be removed from the show he didn’t create and doesn’t own the rights to. Alaska is th ultimately RuPaul’s Drag Race fan favorite and it would be favorable for her to replace RuPaul as the next host of Alaska’s Drag Race.
