The Issue

Across the globe, travelers are facing a 'Digital Wall' built by VFS Global. As a monopoly service provider for the Schengen Area, VFS has become a bottleneck that lacks basic accountability. When there is no competition, there is no incentive to fix broken systems. We are calling for an immediate investigation into the following systemic failures:

Predatory Friction" & Revenue Incentives: We demand an audit of the ratio between "Free" appointments and "Premium/Prime Time" services. There is a growing concern that technical "glitches" (such as Error 403102 and Session Timeouts) on the free portal are being used as "predatory friction" to drive desperate applicants toward high-fee premium lounges. A government contractor should not profit from its own technical incompetence.

End the "Slot Scarcity" and Black Market Manipulation: The current system for releasing appointments is opaque and easily manipulated by third-party bots and "appointment agents." This forces legitimate applicants to either refresh a broken website for weeks or pay hundreds of pounds to "black market" services.

Deceptive KPI Reporting (The "Bolt Email" Issue): VFS Global seems to report high "Resolution Rates" to the Embassies. However, our evidence shows that tickets are often closed in "Bad Faith." Support agents frequently issue automated "Bolt Emails" claiming they are waiting for information already provided, or closing tickets with "No records found" despite proof of registration. This is KPI Fraud—closing tickets to meet targets without actually solving the user's problem.

Violation of Data Rights (UK/EU GDPR): Under GDPR, every applicant has a Right of Access to their data. By blockading users with 403 Forbidden errors and preventing account access for weeks, VFS is effectively preventing us from managing, rectifying, or accessing our personal data. We call on the ICO (Information Commissioner's Office) to investigate these digital blockades as a breach of data protection laws.

Obstruction of Property & Treaty Rights: For property owners and residents, these technical failures are not mere "inconveniences"—they are an obstruction of Property Rights. Under international consular standards, a private contractor should not have the power to block a homeowner's access to their assets through faulty software.

Our Demands to the Ministries of Foreign Affairs:

We are not just reporting a "glitch"; we are documenting a global breach of service. We demand that the Portuguese and Netherlands Ministries of Foreign Affairs launch an immediate audit of their contracts with VFS Global.

1.Independent Technical Audit: A third-party review of the "Nano" portal infrastructure.

2. Manual Bypass Clause: Any applicant who provides a screenshot of a 403 or 401 server error must be granted an immediate manual appointment.

3. Contractual Penalties: Financial penalties for VFS Global every time a support ticket is closed without a verified resolution.

4. Implementation of a Transparent Queue/Waitlist: Instead of a "first-come, first-served" lottery that favors bots, VFS must implement a mandatory digital waitlist (First-In, First-Out). When a slot opens, it should be offered to the next person in line via a time-limited secure link.

5. Biometric Verification for Booking: To kill the black market, appointments must be locked to a passport number and verified via basic biometric or "Live Photo" checks at the time of booking, making slots non-transferable and unsellable.

6. Separation of 'Premium' Capacity: We demand a legal cap on "Premium Lounge" slots. VFS must prove that they are not intentionally withholding standard slots to force users into paying for "Premium" upgrades.

A Documented Pattern of Failure

Our struggle is not an isolated incident. VFS Global has a documented history of systemic negligence that has previously triggered government intervention:

UK Parliamentary Inquiry: In 2019, the Home Affairs Select Committee investigated VFS following reports of technical glitches and "extortionate" fees, forcing a public apology and service reviews.

South African Government Audit: In 2023, after mass petitions regarding system blockades and "bot" interference, the Department of Home Affairs was forced to launch an independent audit of VFS’s operations.

EU Policy Shift: The European Commission is currently accelerating the "Schengen Visa Digitalisation" project specifically to reduce reliance on external providers like VFS, who have consistently failed to meet the standards of the Community Code on Visas.
