Discrimination

The Issue

I have lost 2 beautiful rottweilers mum and son age 5 and 3 because of several vets refusing to treat them on the grounds that they where aggressive, when they were not.

My boy reggie age 3 was dying in the back of my car as we drove around for 8 hours begging for help for him. He had diabetes and was suffering from ketoacidosis, a fatal complication of diabetes. Every vet we visited either glanced at him and said they'd put him down, or point blank refused to see him, saying they would not help us because if he recovered then he could be aggressive.

We incurred significant costs, both in consultations and medication, nothing in the face of having our boy be treated and live, but it seems that all vets care about these days is money, not the welfare and health of beloved family pets.

The aim of this petition is to have Parliment implement legislation that regulates the prices of animal medication and caps the charges vets can make to make pet care and insurance more affordable, and prevent vets from point blank refusing to see an animal and extend their duty of care beyond simply offering euthanasia.

We would also like to introduce legislation to prevent veterinary practices from denying treatment to an animal because of its breed or the fact that they don't like the owner personally, both of which are currently legal under UK law.

Our pets are not just animals, they are like children to all who have them, and if a hospital were to deny treatment to your child because the doctor didn't like the look of you there would be outrage. We simply would like this courtesy to be extended to pets also.
