Reconsider their decision to make changes to The District

The Issue

PLEASE SIGN MY PETITION TO STOP THE CHANGES AT THE DISTRICT AT GREEN VALLEY!!!!!
The above mentioned are planning to re-open the main street at 'The District', at Green Valley Ranch, to vehicular traffic with angled parking. They plan on spending millions of dollars on this 'upgrade' to The District. They will be adding 46 parking spaces. They held a neighborhood meeting on December 5, to which they sent out 360 notices. They are required by State law to send notices to those properties that are within 775 feet. Approximately 34 people attended the meeting. Of the 360 notices sent, only approx. 1/2 of them actually reside in Henderson. The remainders are Condo or business owners who have no real vested interest in the neighborhood. The people of Henderson were blindsided!!
It appears that the underlying motive by Vestar's proposal to change the plan and the intended use of the shopping area at the District is primarily influenced by the generation of revenue; putting profits over the safety of their patrons and our residents. We vehemently oppose this proposed conversion. Here are some of the reasons why:
First and foremost is public safety. Based on media reports there has been an increase in pedestrian vs. vehicle accidents in our valley, and it has become apparent that driving trends are becoming more dangerous for pedestrians. Families and children enjoy being able to meander back and forth across the walkways to shop and dine.
Our next concern relates to Crime. Under the current configuration, we feel that foot traffic is a deterrent and makes it more difficult for criminals to commit theft and burglary on shops. Providing vehicle access would allow them a faster means of escape, thus further endangering the shoppers, visitors, and vehicles.
Another concern is the feel that the District offers. The environment has such a beautiful park-like setting, and this is what shoppers, visitors, merchants, families, and pets love about the place. It has such an ambience that cannot be duplicated, and this is what sets it apart from other shopping centers/malls around the valley. It is an open area that is great for shopping, strolling, meeting family and friends, sitting outside and dining, people watching. It’s why we come. With the proposed opening of the road to traffic, you will now have fumes from vehicles and motorcycles, as well as increased noise pollution. No longer will it be a pleasant visit to the District to shop or for sidewalk dining. If you take that charm away, people will leave and shop somewhere else. It will be just another mundane mall, and a small one at that!
We live here. This is our home and Henderson is our town. We respectfully ask the developers to reconsider changing the things we have come to love about the ‘District’, and not risk the safety of us; all for a more profitable bottom line.
PLEASE SIGN MY PETITION!! Thank you.
