THE PITCH IS SIMPLE:
WHATEVER HAPPENS WITH REGULATION OF THE SALE OF LEGAL CANNABIS IN VERMONT, WE CAN REGULATE THE CONSUMPTION OF CANNABIS IN VERMONT BY PROVIDING A PERMIT TO ALLOW FOR WEDDINGS, FESTIVALS, AND ALL KINDS OF EVENTS TO CONTROL IF, HOW, AND WHERE 21+ ADULTS MAY CONSUME LEGAL CANNABIS.

Since 2018, cannabis has been legal for adults (>21 years old) in Vermont to cultivate, possess, and consume.

There are not yet legal sales, however, thanks to Vermont’s long-standing culture of cannabis consumption, and increased access to homegrown cannabis, cannabis consumption has, is, and will continue to be a part of adult gatherings in Vermont.

However, even post-legalization in 2018, when adults gather in Vermont for events -- including weddings, huge economic drivers for the state -- the present laws are unclear about how/where/if 21+ adults may consume their legal cannabis.

The Solution: Allow Temporary Consumption Permits Similar to Alcohol...‘beer garden for cannabis’

Vermont presently issues various kinds of temporary consumption permits, including the festival, special event, and educational sampling permits.

These permits are inexpensive and require a simple application, which must be approved by a local licensing authority (town clerk).

The same licensees who are presently entrusted by the state of Vermont to manufacture and distribute alcohol could be entrusted to setup and check IDs at a cannabis consumption space, similar to a ‘beer garden’.
