Freedom from F-35 jets in a city
The US Air Force admitted that F-35 jets are loud enough to damage hearing and impair learning. Hundreds of survey responses confirm pain, distress, ringing in ears, internal organs vibrating, & kids brought to tears: a daily military assault on Vermonters.
Justice for black, brown & working-class people
The Air Force says F-35 practice flights disproportionately injure black, brown and working-class people in Winooski, Burlington & South Burlington. Abolish F-35 basing amidst densely populated cities. Stop wasting $1.4 million per week on the F-35 flights—especially while the money is needed to sustain & protect workers during a pandemic.
Liberty from Nuclear Terror
The F-35 is a first strike nuclear weapon, making BTV airport a target for nuclear missiles. The Atomic Doomsday Clock is now set at 100 seconds to midnight--closest to nuclear war since inception in 1947.
Defend democracy: Burlington voted to cancel F-35
Voters adopted a 2018 Burlington town meeting resolution calling for cancellation of F-35 basing at BTV airport. But Mayor Weinberger undermined the voters with a letter to the Air Force. The constitution reserves to each state authority over Guard training, giving Governor Scott authority to order a halt in F-35 training flights. He should respect the will of the voters!
