Verizon got approval to build a 51-foot, 4G/ 5G cell tower in the heart of the city of Boyle Heights. At this site, La Casa del Mexicano, there is a community garden and a Center for the Arts. We can not allow this tower to go up as there has been sufficient research to suggest its very harmful health effects to those in closest proximity, which in this case will be our community's children, there is about 7 schools and day care centers in close proximity. By having this tower installed, the neighborhood will be faced with 24/7 exposure to cancer-producing, DNA-damaging and neurological-disorder causing effects. There have been many more adverse health effects that have been connected to exposure of these harmful, high levels of Electro-Magnetic Frequencies (EMF) and other forms of radiation that towers like these consistently produce. 

Other affluent communities (Encinitas, Santa Barbara, Silicon Valley cities) have banned the creation of these towers until more concrete evidence has been found that there are no negative health effects caused by exposure to these towers. Boyle Heights should not be taken advantage of just because we don't have the same resources and funds to protect our neighborhood. Verizon is forcing their way into our city because of our current lack of representation (our CD14 Council member Jose Huizar has been arrested by the FBI) and is planning on using our city as guinea pigs in their experiment for rolling out 5G.
