Pay your customers back and return stolen phones.
The Issue
Verizon's fine print and undisclosed information is costing customers millions per year. Help us keep this company from bullying its customers into paying unjustified fees.
I started this petition in hopes we can make a difference. Listen to my story and you may find that you may have fallen pray to this.
April 30th 2014, I dropped my samsung S5 and broke the screen. As from my knowledge in the past the phone's insurance deductible is as much as a screen replacement. While looking for a "do it yourself" fix for my phone on Amazon, I found a LG Envy phone for 99 dollars. I buy the phone instead, and hook it up to my phone line. After a few months of using this new phone, I realize that I miss the features of my old phone. I decided to go in to the local verizon store and see about an edge up plan for which my wife had mentioned. I told them what happened and how i just disliked the new phone and how it lacked features. The store reps (yep three of em) said no problem and sent me out the door with a brand new samsung note edge.
Everything seemed to be great, they take your working phone and give you a new one for just a few bucks extra on your bill and after you pay the phone 50% off, you can get a different new one. Anyhow, I sent the phone off to the factory as instructed. Two months later, i get a weird charge on my bill for 299.00. I call up verizon and ask what it this charge for? The lady stated it was for not turning in the original phone. Nobody ever said anything about this to me until now, but apparently the phone has to be the original device on the plan. I told her that this was clearly a mistake and that i was never told about this. I promptly asked for my phone back and that i would return the new phone because i wouldn't have done this edge program knowing this (I would have just stuck with the htc phone i just bought). She informs me that Verizon will not give me back my device and they still must have the original phone or they would still charge me.
Being upset, I hung up and waited a day to call them back. This time, the lady for which answered told me this had happened to her and is a common issue. She said to use my insurance on the original samsung device and it wouldnt cost me a penny. Then she said to send the phone in to them and they would erase the 300 dollar fee. I filed a claim and low and behold, they wanted 100 bucks to fix the phone as expected.
Verizon's being a little too sneaky now. They are keeping my new cell phone and not returning it to me (which i purchased on amazon). They are charging me 300 for the edge phone and they are scamming the insurance so that they get yet another phone. I don't think any of this is legal.
If you are a victim of big business by this company, please sign this petition so that we can tell Verizon that this kind of business is not acceptable and that we want our devices back and these bogus fees lifted.
