The city of Ventura, Ca requires "Free Speech Permits". It cost $25 to apply and the website states any event, "that impact City streets, sidewalks, parking lots, public property, airways, public buildings, and traffic require a City permit. Many private properties also require City permits for special activities that have the potential to impact the public-right-of-way."

The right to free speech and the right to assemble is protected by the United States Constitution under the first amendment. The first amendment states, "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances." Notice how it says "free exercise thereof"? How is a $25 fee to apply for a free speech permit constitutional?

We need to tell the city of Ventura, Ca that we do not need a permit to exercise our right to freedom of speech and right to assemble. Please join me, sign this petition, and share!
