The issue

The City of Casey rejected the proposal of a mosque and community centre in Narre Warren ,now the matter will be taken to the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT).

The City of Casey has 15,000 Muslims residing in the area and there is only two mosques, one in Hallam and one in Doveton. These mosques are at full capacity and have a lot of traffic congestion issues, the Melbourne Masjid will solve these problems for Muslims who are unable to fit inside the mosques and other residents that live in close proximity of the mosques.

The proposed mosque and community centre is not only for Muslims but for everyone in the community. This proposal has divided residents but if it is built there is a chance that the community can come together as one and eliminate negative stigmas regarding religion.

There is an issue with the local council regarding planning concerns, we understand this but we are confused as to why a new college with a chapel was built on the same road and in the same area (Foothills). The mosque has a beautiful design and suits the landscape well with the colour green.

It is a human right to have freedom of worship, the Australian law accepts this and it is supported by the UN.
