Respected dignitaries of university of Calicut,
We, the students of 2019-22 batch were left shocked when the university announced the commencement of fifth semester university examination from 27th January of 2022 out of nowhere with hardly 8-9 days to prepare for portions which took 6 months to complete.
As a responsible citizen we are well aware about the spiking TPR and seriousness of COVID-19, But we are not able to comprehend the fact that how a renowned university like CU fails to see the current situation of the state. COVID is not a minor issue, it is life threatening. Even if vaccinated, it is not sure that we will be free from getting infected.
Currently, there are many colleges which are closed due to the increasing number of cases of COVID within students and teachers. An examination notification out of nowhere is definitely effecting the students mentally. Can’t we wait until the COVID cases and TPR slows down?
There are many students who will not be able to write examination due to being covid positive and while there are numerous students living abroad who are not able to get to the state due to the travel restrictions imposed by government of various countries. The covid special exam is not a practical solution as the university had failed in conducting the second semester covid special examinations on time and how can we trust university in conducting fifth semester covid special exam on time? Definitely we could experience a year back if then.
As per the academic calendar issued by the university, the fifth semester exams are meant to commence from 7th February of 2022. Are academic calendar prepared for follow up? We can’t definitely see a purpose for this if an exam is meant to be conducted with a notification only before 9 days to the exam date.
We wouldn’t protest to abolish the exams but could we at least beg to postpone exams as We can’t promise ourselves to cover the entire portion with this short span of time. The best part of CU examinations are the continuous examinations without a gap.
Feels like the university is conducting the exams for namesake.
We are even ready to write the university exams as per the academic calendar issued by the university as there is enough time to get study support materials from closed colleges, hostels and to prepare.
It is high time that the university considers the mental well-being of the students. We don’t want to leave our degree halfway but most importantly we can’t give up our life for the sake of university exams.
We would beg to stop such irresponsible actions from the university without even considering the whole being of a student.
Please don’t make us regret the decision for choosing CU for UG courses.
Really felt pity for the concern the university VC and controller of examination are providing for the CU students.
Please consider us as humans.
We are ready to write exams but give us time to prepare.
Yours sincerely,
Students of batch 2019-2022
