In 2017, the VBCPS School Board gave a survey that asked if people were interested in the possibility of switching up start times. This year’s survey was awful. It only gave people the choices of different start times. The couldn’t say “Hey! I don’t like those choices,” which was extremely unfair. Many people are against the start times, mainly because of that survey.

Changing up the start times will do more harm than it does good. Even though high schoolers might get more sleep from it, it will mess up students in elementary school, too. Some families would have to wake up at 5 or earlier! Some children may have to stand out in the dark, which is extremely unsafe. Also, high schoolers would get out after 4 pm! Imagine how hard it would be to get them to activities across town and not be late! 

My goal is to get more than 10,000 people to sign up. I am hoping that by this petition, the VBCPS school board will see that changing start times is a bad idea.
