Bring back access to Munchie snacks and coffee at Vanderbilt.
Bring back access to Munchie snacks and coffee at Vanderbilt.
The Issue
Please sign to encourage Vanderbilt Dining to bring back Munchie snacks as part of the meal plan! Additionally, we would like to encourage Vanderbilt to allow meal swipe usage at Local Java, so students can have accessible coffee.
Vanderbilt Dining has made harmful changes to their dining system for the 2020 school year without taking any input from the students themselves.
These changes include a complete shift to how students get food from Munchie Marts, the campus convenience stores. In all prior years, students were able to use their meal plan swipes to buy a wide variety of meal options as well as snacks. However, as of 2020 these options have been replaced with a one size fits all approach that doesn’t allow the same flexibility. Students now have only two options: buy a meal using a swipe (which now does not allow for students to order sides of their choice), or spend their own money if they want to get any sort of side or snack not packaged with the meal.
This is problematic for multiple reasons. Students now do have the option to use their meal plan swipes to buy snacks and sides. If a student is hungry but now wanting to get an entire meal, they can no longer order only snacks, and are now forced to either overeat by ordering an entree, or spend their money to buy ANY other options. Additionally, this is an issue for the countless students who study late at night. They no longer have the option to use swipes to buy snacks, and since Munchie Marts are the only food stores open late, students who cannot afford to use their personal money to buy snacks are now left without options.
Vanderbilt’s overhaul of the food system, although well intentioned, should have taken into account student input. If this had been the case, issues like this would not have occurred. If you read this far and believe this to be an issue for Vandy students, please sign this petition.
