Canada Day weekend was marred once again by the party boats that were back in Vancouver Harbour blasting their awful techno pop, with residents and beachgoers forced to listen. The main culprit this past weekend was Vancouver Cruises' boat Abitibi which was out partying for all 3 days of the long weekend. Another one of its boats, the Queen of Diamonds was also out. Here is the email that I sent to the owner of these boats Russell Bennett, and cc'd the new Mayor and Council, to bring them up to speed!

Please share the petition once again!

Hi Russell;

Your Vancouver Cruises boat the Abitibi was out in the harbour blasting music for the 3 days of the long weekend, at different times. (see attached screenshots). The Queen of Diamonds was also out on one of these days. The awful techno pop could be heard very clearly from our balcony at 1st + Trafalgar in Kits. Here are some basic physics lessons on how sound is amplified over water.

If you may recall, there was an agreement made with the City of Vancouver liquor licensing dept in 2015 and there are guidelines to be followed to minimize party boat music. Please read the update on my petition for more information concerning the rules and the agreement with the City - posted in August 2015. It appears that nothing has changed since then.

Perhaps it's time for the City to consider withdrawing the liquor licence of party boats who don't consider the right to quiet of the residents and beach goers of Vancouver?

Your co-operation would be very much appreciated!

Thanks,

Elvira Lount
